Celebrate Wish Children During Wish Month!
March 1st, 2017

Do you know a child living with a life-threatening illness? Maybe you know their parents or siblings. Or perhaps you know someone who makes annual donations or volunteers their free time to families like this. At Children’s Wish Foundation of Canada, we bring all of these incredibly brave, selfless, and generous, people together. This March, help us show them how important they are.
Children’s Wish has officially declared ‘Wish Month’ throughout the country during the month of March. Every chapter of Children’s Wish is celebrating the Wish children, their families, as well as the donors, volunteers, and various stakeholders who turn Wishes into reality.
These are Wishes for children like three-year-old Colton. Colton was diagnosed with a condition called Adams Oliver Syndrome. As a result, he had a heart defect and was missing his right foot and half his left. He underwent heart surgery at 23 days old and eventually he will need another. Despite his diagnosis, Colton is not the kind of child to let anything stand in his way. He pushes himself as hard with his prosthetics as any able-bodied child. That is why, despite being told by doctors he might never walk, Colton has.
For Colton’s Wish, it was simple: he wanted to fly. If it was travelling – whether in planes, trains, boats, or automobiles – Colton enjoyed the moving. His parents suggested putting that all together by flying to Disneyland then taking a Disney Cruise ship. The kind of joy Colton will get from his Wish – flying, driving, and boating – is something he cannot experience every day.
We are celebrating Wish Month for Colton and the hundreds of other children whose Wishes we work to make happen. It is for the generous donors whose giving will turn Colton’s Wish into a reality. It is for the kindness of volunteers who give their personal time to ensure these Wishes come true.
On March 1st, landmarks across Alberta – including the High Level Bridge and ATB Building in Edmonton - will be lit in blue and yellow to celebrate the beginning of Wish Month. Throughout the month, events in both Edmonton and Calgary will highlight the Wishes and the very important people who turn them into reality. The events include granting Wishes, donor appreciations, and more! Also keep your eyes out each Wednesday throughout Wish Month for ‘Wish Wednesday’, a day when Children’s Wish will share the story of a Wish child such as Colton.
Wish Month offers you 31 opportunities to show your appreciation for these incredible individuals. Don’t let a single day go by without letting a Wish child, parent, donor or volunteer know how important they are!
Check out our social channels throughout Wish Month for more information about Wish children, activations and events, and ways to give. Use #WishMonth to show your appreciation for the Wish children and everyone who plays a role in turning their Wishes into reality.
