Simply Supper Helps Seeks Family Nominations

March 1st, 2015

By Rachael McEachern

Simply Supper, a local Edmonton business, is hosting the 2nd Simply Supper Helps Meal Drive on May 5th and is looking for families who could use some community support.  Nominated families will have their freezers filled up by Simply Supper and its generous group of volunteers.

“What is particularly unique about the Simply Supper Helps program is we are interested in finding families who could simply use some community love,” states Monita Chapman, owner of Simply Supper. “For instance, a new mom with a colicky baby or a family who has a sick child – we are interested in hearing from our community about these families who we can simply help.”

This program was created in 2014 as a result of a personal loss for Monita – within a short period of time, she lost her step-dad to cancer and had her youngest child in the Stollery.  It was through her constant visits to see her step-dad and to the Stollery that Monita had her eyes opened to how many families were struggling to keep the basics in life together – like putting a supper on their table at the end of each day - all while dealing with illness and potentially losing a loved one.

This realization led Monita to show up at these facilities with Simply Supper meals for other families – a note of caring from her family to their family.  It also sparked the idea of Simply Supper Helps – an opportunity for Simply Supper to offer their suppers, as a gift, to families in Edmonton.

In 2014, Monita, with the support of 100 volunteers, launched Simply Supper Helps by delivering over 900 meals to 54 families in the Edmonton area.  In 2015, she hopes to grow their community reach by delivering over 1,000 meals.

Simply Supper Helps is reaching out to the Edmonton and area community to find families who would benefit from our Simply Supper Helps Meal Drive.  Nomination forms can be found at or by visiting our Simply Supper store at #1, 2305 Rabbit Hill Rd.  Nominations can be dropped off or emailed to and need to be received by March 31, 2015.
