5th annual SkirtsAfire herArts Festival Artist Profile The Key of She

SkirtsAfire herArts Festival is thrilled to present The Key of She featuring the talents of six local singer-songwriters in an intimate setting at The Carrot Community Arts Coffeehouse (9351 118 Ave), March 11 & 12, 1pm – 3pmAriana Brophy, Jessica Heine, Kate Blechinger, Karimah, Maria Phillipos and Nadine Kellman will share their songs and the stories behind them. 

Ariana Brophy: Ariana is an active singer, songwriter and collaborator in the Edmonton music scene. Her first EP ‘Ink And Water’ was nominated for an Edmonton Music Award in 2016. Her second EP ‘Sweet Things’ was released September 2016.

Jessica Heine: Jessica is a fine arts graduate with a BMus in vocal performance. Although she revels in singing classical music, her passion is folk music and storytelling through song.

Kate Blechinger: A charismatic performer, Kate can be found singing around Edmonton in various groups including her own quartet, Emily Nancy Guthrie & The Wildflowers and The Jivin’ Bells. Kate is currently working on her first EP to be released later this year.

Karimah: Karimah performs English and French soulful electro-R&B. Her powerhouse vocals, accounts of bittersweet exploits and tales of rebellious womanhood, soar over triggered tracks, samples and beats.

Maria Phillipos: Promising nothing but honesty, Maria is a musician and composer. Inspired by life’s highs and lows, her music reflects life’s most vulnerable moments.

Nadine Kellman: Nadine has been making her musical mark in Western Canada landing regular gigs at festivals and venues across British Columbia and Alberta. Her blues-tinged folk is an avenue for her trademark witty retorts and open letter songwriting.

SkirtsAfire herArts Festival is heating up March 9 - 12th, 2017 featuring the work of women in theatre, music, dance, visual art, comedy and spoken word in various venues along 118th Avenue. Artists and audience come together to share in these powerful, moving, insightful and entertaining performances, exhibitions and workshops. SkirtsAfire herArts Festival is Edmonton’s only multidisciplinary festival celebrating and elevating the work of women in the arts.
