Alberta Ballet is delighted to present Romeo & Juliet, a classical ballet choreographed by Artistic Director Jean Grand-Maître. Performances will run in Edmonton March 18-19 at the Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium and in Calgary March 31-April 2 at the Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium. These performances will feature the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra and the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Alberta Ballet Music Director Peter Dala.
One of the pinnacles of 20th century ballet, Romeo & Juliet captures the tragic tale of Shakespeare’s star-crossed renaissance lovers with astonishing grace and heartbreaking intimacy. One of the best loved works of Artistic Director Jean Grand-Maître, the ballet is set to the musical genius of Sergei Prokofiev – whose composition has been referred to as the greatest ballet score ever composed – and will be played live by the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra and the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra.

“The tragic tale of our star-crossed lovers is more poignant and relevant today than it has ever been. Shakespeare's musings on beauty and on love, accompanied by one of the most heart wrenching scores ever written, makes this ballet one of the most memorable experiences our art form can offer,” says Grand-Maître.
