MacEwan University presents Showcase Bands and Big Bands

Edmonton – MacEwan University’s Faculty of Fine Arts and Communications is proud to announce the first two shows of the 2016/2017 Music Season. The MacEwan Big Band starts things off December 5, and the Showcase Bands will take the stage the following evening on December 6. Both shows begin at 7:30 p.m. at the John L. Haar Theatre, 10045 – 156 Street.  

The prestigious Big Bands, directed by Raymond Baril and Jerrold Dubyk, launch the season with their energy and sound. This powerful fusion of Latin, funk and jazz styles with colourful and breathtaking saxophones, trombones, trumpets and rhythm sections will appeal to all music fans.  

Lead by Chandelle Rimmer and Dr. William Richards, the Showcase Bands are among MacEwan Music’s high profile ensembles. This performance will be a flashback to the turntable classics of the 70s and 80s, featuring the works of ABBA, Eurythmics, Blondie, Peter Gabriel, Toto, Aerosmith, Boston, and many more!  

Tickets for both performances are $13.75 for adults and $11.75 for full-time students and seniors, and are available at Tix on the Square, 780-420-1757, or tixonthesquare.ca.

The music program at MacEwan University has been producing highly skilled graduates for nearly 40 years and is one of the few programs in North America that combines studies in jazz and popular music. Our four-year Bachelor of Music in Jazz and Contemporary Popular Music (B.Mus.) degree offers students the opportunity to study with working professionals while pursuing a challenging academic curriculum provides the skills, insights, competency and credentials to pursue a career as a professional musician, performer, creator and leader in the evolving music industry. Students who enter the degree also have the option to exit after their second year with a music diploma.
