OPENING NIGHT CEREMONIES: THURSDAY, AUGUST 13, 2015

August 13th, 2015

A rocking opening to the 34th Edmonton International Fringe Theatre Festival in ATB Financial Park!

The 34th Edmonton International Fringe Theatre Festival blows into Old Strathcona for a whirlwind adventure with SupercaliFRINGEilistic, August 13-23, 2015. Join us as we kick off the Edmonton International Fringe Theatre Festival starting with the Performers Parade beginning at 7:00pm followed by Opening Night Ceremonies in ATB Financial Park (McIntyre Park) at 7:30pm featuring Edmonton’s own Scenic Route to Alaska performing live on the ATB Financial Outdoor Stage. The Edmonton Fringe Opening Night Ceremonies is presented by Homes By Avi.

The magical Edmonton Fringe commences with the Performers Parade at 7:00pm, a tradition dating back to 1983 with thrilling larger than life puppets as a new addition this year. The Parade will feature a variety of enchanting performers, participation from our dedicated volunteers, and our enthusiastic Youth Troupe. The Parade ends in ATB Financial Park (McIntrye Park) at 7:30pm. To see the Parade route please visit http://www.fringetheatre.ca/pdf/FestivalEvents_2015.pdf.

Rocking the ATB Financial Outdoor Stage with their unique prairie-indie sound is Scenic Route to Alaska at 7:30pm. Growing up together in Edmonton, Alberta, Trevor Mann, Murray Wood, and Shea Connor have been friends for as long as they can remember. Starting in 2011, the band originally performed and recording long-distance, as Wood studied jazz double bass performance at McGill University in Montreal. Released in June 2014, their sophomore album, Warrington, builds on their distinctive sound and captures the positive energy that the trio brings to their live performance. It's also the first album recorded since being reunited in their hometown. Inspired by Mann's English war bride grandmother, Dorothy, the deceptively cheery indie-folk album put an optimistic spin on dealing with love and loss. Since the release, they have been nominated for Pop Recording of the Year at the Western Canadian Music Awards, made top 12 for the Alberta Peak Performance Project, received the CRUZ FM Emerging Artist Award at the 2014 Edmonton Folk Music Festival, and have been charting on radio stations throughout North America.
