Girls Inc. Embarks on Ambitious Diminishing Tea Party Fundraiser

June 25th, 2015

Girls Incorporated of Northern Alberta is a non‐profit organization with a mission to inspire all girls to be strong, smart and bold. We provide girls 6 to 18 years old with the knowledge and skills needed to break free from gender stereotypes, create social change, be proud of who they are, and be confident in their own skin.

Girls Inc. of Northern Alberta serves communities all over the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo (RMWB), and has partnership agreements with organizations throughout Western   Canada to deliver our programs and positively influence girls’ lives.

Each year the successful operation of Girls Inc. depends upon the generosity of community members within the RMWB. The number of girls that we serve has increased dramatically over the years, and as such, we require additional funding that will allow us to grow and continue our important outreach work.   In order to further expand our youth programming into outlying areas in the RMWB, Girls Inc. is embarking on a very ambitious fundraising campaign – a Diminishing Tea Party.

The Diminishing Tea Party fundraiser starts with one tea party (or wine party, or potluck, or after work drinks, etc…) where five initial hosts invite seven guests each. Each invited guest must agree to donate $10 to Girls Inc. of Northern Alberta and also commit to hosting a tea party of their own. Within 30 days, each of the seven guests invites a further six guests to attend a tea party, and then those six guests invite five guests to their party, and so on and so on. The process continues until 25,200 people each have one guest for tea.

The time frame for the Diminishing Tea Party campaign is roughly six months. The Diminishing Tea Party campaign officially began on May 30, and therefore will wrap up roughly at the end of November 2015.

While the Diminishing Tea Party is a structured fundraiser, there is ample opportunity for   community members to get involved. If you are interested in hosting or attending a party within the fundraiser, please contact the Girls Inc. office at 780‐790‐9236 or

All funds raised through the Diminishing Tea Party will help Girls Inc. to continue to meet the needs of girls in our region.
