Eleanor & Park by Rainbow Rowell

Eleanor and Park don’t think much of each other when they have to share a seat on  the bus. Over time, though, they develop a friendship through comics and music that eventually grows into a first love that both characters acknowledge rarely ever lasts. Not at all hearts-and-flowers gooey, Eleanor and Park is a story of teenage love that is refreshingly realistic.

Seraphina by Rachel Hartman

A fair maiden, caught between courtly life and a dragon… Yeah.  Not exactly what you think.  Seraphina is half-human and half-dragon, and she’s caught in the middle of a murder investigation.  Dealing with musicians, bigotry, and mystery, Seraphina takes the reader with her on a snark-free journey of self-acceptance in the face of seemingly insurmountable odds.

The 5th Wave by Rick Yancey

Speaking of “hot” themes in Young Adult fiction, this book has it all – post-apocalyptic survival horror, aliens, a Zombie, AND dystopian themes.  It may sound a little over-the-top – but there’s a reason this is the most talked about book in YA fiction this year.  The 5th Wave takes readers on a truly epic thrill ride, and this is only the first book of a new series!
